Stevens PTA Updates for Mon., May 23, 2022

  • CARNIVAL, June 3, 5-7pm Please join us in bringing Carnival back! Carnival is a 40+year old tradition where students get to play games on the school yard and win prizes.

  • CAKE WALK donations needed! Please consider donating baked goods (homemade or purchased) for the Carnival Cake Walk! If you plan to bring something in or have any questions please contact: kirsty.taddy@gmail.com or janeypetty@gmail.com. Thanks and remember, more cake means more winners and more fun!

  • SUMMER BOOK GIVEAWAY In addition to the Stevens Carnival we're excited to restart another beloved Stevens tradition this year: the Summer Book Giveaway! The donation box for prizes and books are in the PTA office. Folks can drop donations off at the front desk or put them in the box in the PTA office.

  • The next PTA meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24th PTA on Zoom. Here's a draft of the agenda: link; minutes from the April meeting are available upon request.

  • The Seattle Times ran a story today about the Southeast Seattle Schools Fundraising Alliance, the group that the Stevens PTA chose to give 5% of our budget to this year & last year. Such great work reimagining how school and PTA fundraising can work and such an important call to focus on equity across Seattle schools!

  • Great work on Jump-a-Thon, students, volunteers, and Ms. Goubert! Families, please help your student remember to return their pledges soon. Pledges can be dropped off at the front desk. Thank you for supporting our students!

  • The Racial Equity committee would love to learn from your family so we can become a more inclusive and welcoming community! Surveys went home in backpacks last week--please return those soon. Every student who returns a survey will receive a gift card for a free cookie at Volunteer Park Cafe!

  • Here's another chance to help our awesome PE teacher Ms. Goubert: "I am trying to get ½ marathon stickers made. I’ve “designed’ some, but they don’t look great-as my experience designing is minimal. I have the logo & the funding to order them. We are also planning Field Day for June 14th-will have more details & a volunteer ask-right after the Jump-a-thon." Email smgoubert@seattleschools.org to help out!

  • The Stevens PTA has won the WA State PTA Silver Membership Award in recognition of our increase in members compared to last year. Great work everyone! Join the PTA and help us go for Gold (110% of last year's memberships). I think just three new members would get us there! Memberships in the Stevens PTA are free for all community members. CARNIVAL, June 3, 5-7pm Please join us in bringing Carnival back! Carnival is a 40+year old tradition where students get to play games on the school yard and win prizes. Carnival happens because of volunteers like YOU! Please check out pre-event and event volunteer opportunities on Sign Up Genius (link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090d4caaa92ca6f58-carnival). Only activities that are fully staffed with volunteers will happen, so please sign-up! We also need leads for a Sensory Sensitivities Tent, Prizes, and Cake-Walk donations. Please contact programs@stevenspta.org if you are interested in learning more. And yes, go ahead and forward the Sign Up Genius link to anyone you think would like to be part of bringing back this sorely missed event. We are also looking for donations of gently used or new items to be used as prizes. Prizes can be dropped off in the donation box near the front entrance. Stay tuned for info on how to donate baked goods before Carnival. Thank you!

CAKE WALK donations Please consider donating baked goods (homemade or purchased) for the Carnival Cake Walk! Please drop off goodies of any shape and (reasonable) size starting Thursday June 2nd thru Friday June 3rd to the PTA Office (located in the front office). Please have your item in a ready-to-go format as it will be moved to the prize table as-is (cake box, paper plate with cover, etc). Please divide cupcakes into packs of 6. We ask that any baked items with common allergens be labeled. Gluten-free and Vegan items are always welcome. If you plan to bring something in or have any questions please contact: kirsty.taddy@gmail.com or janeypetty@gmail.com Thanks and remember, more cake means more winners and more fun!

SUMMER BOOK GIVEAWAY In addition to the Stevens Carnival we're excited to restart another beloved Stevens tradition this year: the Summer Book Giveaway! One day in June each class will come to the library to browse a selection of books and every child will be able to take home and keep at least one. To make this event a success we need your book donations and volunteers to help sort books and help kids make selections on the day of the event. Please contact Megan Barnard <megamurph@gmail.com> if you're interested in helping with this wonderful celebration of books and reading! We'll be collecting book donations along with toy donations for Carnival, so please bring gently used books your family is ready to part with to Stevens and place them in the donation boxes!
