Darcy Marlow

Darcy Marlow is a local artist who has been teaching art for over 20 years.  She joined Stevens School in the spring of the 2007 - 08 school year as the Artist-in-Residence.  In this position, she has had many wonderful and exciting experiences with the students and art.  Darcy frequents many of the classrooms as much as twice a month.  She teaches everything from drawing skills and art concepts, to lessons that focus on enhancing curriculum.  In October, the third grade students created a sound machine sculpture, using recycled materials, that the entire student body was invited to experience during recesses one day.  Darcy also supports the teachers in their art endeavors and keeps the teachers well supplied with art materials.

Darcy is a mother of three children, ages 5, 10, and 12.  She teaches art at her children's school as well.  She loves teaching art so much she even teaches art camps during breaks!  As an artist, Darcy is currently working with mixed media.  Darcy truly believes that within everyone lies an artist, and it her job to help that child discover what kind of artist they want to be, whether it sculpture, chef, or fabric designer,  formal painter, gardener, or just with creative living.  Darcy believes strongly in the process, and the joy of exploration in art.  Products are a wonderful bonus, but the real excitement of art is unveiling the unknown.
