Welcome to Room 306

Room 306 (3rd Grade) - Ms. Ingham

Welcome to Room 306

We look forward to an exciting and productive year of reading good books, exploring mathematics, experimenting in science, and expressing ourselves through writing and the arts.

Homework

There will be assigned homework Monday through Thursday to provide your child practice on third grade skills. Homework should be returned the morning after it is assigned. If it is complete and if you have initialed the reading calendar, your child will receive a stamp on the homework chart in the folder to be "cashed" at the class store periodically throughout the year. Please check your child's homework and lend some help if he or she is having difficulty. As the year progresses, expect your child to have some long term projects to complete as well as the daily work.

Classroom Expectations

Three basic classroom rules have been established.

  • Show respect .
  • Make a good decision.
  • Solve the problem.

Although I expect the children will naturally follow these guidelines, I use a variety of positive rewards to encourage appropriate classroom behavior. As an example, the class earns stars on our star chart when they follow classroom rules. When they have accumulated 200 stars, we will celebrate with a read-a-thon. If  a child chooses inappropriate behavior, the following consequences will be used:  1) a warning, 2) a student/teacher conference and possible loss of recess, 3) a parent contact.  Please help your child be successful by discussing and encouraging appropriate school behavior.

Ways Parents Can Help

I feel we are partners working together to help your child become the best possible student she or he can be. I hope you will fully participate in this partnership by:

  • checking the homework and folder daily
  • initialing the reading calendar
  • encouraging your child to discuss the events of the day and what he/she learned
  • being involved and visible at school events
  • sending me a note or e-mail (njingham@seattleschools.org) or leaving me a voicemail (252-3434) to inform me of any special concerns you or your child may have. Since I quite often do not have time to check my voice mail during school hours,  messages for your child regarding after school  arrangements should be called into the main office (252-3400).

Classroom Supplies

Student Supplies-I supply each student with:

  • a pencil box which contains a box of 16 crayons, scissors, a glue stick, an eraser, and pencils (You may replace the crayons with a box of 48 if you wish.)

  • folders for the various subject areas and homework
  • cans of fine and wide tip markers

I ask parents to supply the following:

  • Box of tissue to be shared with the class
  • Funds for a subscription to Scholastic News. This is a publication we will be reading in class to learn about current events.
  • A water bottle to be filled at home each morning
