Education
I grew up here in Seattle (in Roanoke Park) and attended Martin Luther King
Elementary, Seward Elementary (now TOPS), Meany Middle School and Garfield High
School. I graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in
Psychology (a prerequisite for working with all those parents!) and earned my
Masters-in-Teaching at Seattle University.
Teaching Background
I taught Kindergarten, First Grade and Bilingual Education for six years in
the Highline School District (in southwest Seattle). I came to Stevens as
the Elementary Reading Specialist in 1999 and began my job-sharing position with
Jeanine Snowden in September, 2000. We've been a most happy team ever
since, teaching Kindergarten and, since 2005, 1st grade.
Interests
I spend a huge amount of time with my three kids and my doting (of course)
husband. We all like to camp, travel, read and spend an awful lot of time
in our kitchen cooking and baking. I am constantly "redesigning" my yard,
hunting for bargains in thrift shops, knitting hats and scarves (don't ask for
anything more complicated) and trying to catch up on my sleep (I keep trying to
get those first-graders to nap . . .) I also adore my older daughter's soccer
team, which I have coached for the past five seasons -- nothing like 15
eleven-year olds to keep you in-line!
