About Me
I was born in Palo Alto, California in 1959. I have a younger sister
and two older brothers. (My mom had 4 kids all in a span of 5 years!)
I grew up in the Bay Area and went to college at U.C. Berkeley. I
graduated in 1981 with a degree in anthropology and did free-lance
photography for a couple years before going back to school at San Jose State
University for my teaching credential. In 1987 I began my teaching
career at Fair Oaks School, a Spanish bilingual school in Redwood City, CA.
During my first few years there, I traveled to Mexico in the summers to
learn Spanish. I taught 3rd and 4th grade at Fair Oaks, looping with
my students, for 8 years.
I moved to Seattle in '95 for a change of scenery, and I was hired to teach
Spanish at Stevens in '97. During my first few years at Stevens I also
attended graduate school, and I received my Masters in Education from
Antioch University in 2000. I continued teaching Spanish here at
Stevens until June '05. The following year, I taught 4th grade, and the
year after that I started teaching kindergarten, which I absolutely love.
I enjoy learning languages, playing guitar, writing songs, going hiking,
riding my bike (with my dog, Chipi in the basket up front), knitting, and
reading children's books. I also love to travel, both locally and
abroad. I live in West Seattle.
